Last Day - Saturday 5th July

Homeward bound - our last day in Port Douglas. Didn't really want to leave but all good things have to come to an end.

We did have a bit of time to kill though. We didn't get picked up until 2:30pm and our flight wasn't until 5:30pm.

So we started the day by polishing off as much of the left over food as possible for breakfast. We didn't have to check out straight away. They let us take our time because they knew we weren't being picked up until mid-afternoon.

Once we were packed and had tidied up the room, we headed down stairs for the last time. We left our bags at Reception and wandered back to Four Mile Beach.

Bel stopped along the way and bought some jewellery she had spotted earlier in the week. She couldn't decide between two bangles - so she got them both. She also had trouble picking her favourite of the two pairs of ear rings = so she got them both! Then we continued on to the beach.

There is a little lookout at the northern end of Four Mile Beach so we climbed that and took some more photos. Unlike earlier in the week, the beach looked a lot better now that the sun was out. There were plenty of people determinately sunbaking in spite of the cool wind blowing off the water.

We went for a stroll along the water's edge until I convinced Bel to turn around and head back. I think she would have walked the entire length of the beach if I hadn't been harping on about getting sunburnt. As it turned out, I got a little bit of colour - Bel got a whole lot of red! After we got home she found something in one of the pregnancy books about women having to be much more careful than usual because they will burn easier when pregnant. Well we can definitely confirm that rumour!

We wandered along the shops again and somehow managed to kill enough time that it was time to head back to the Newport and wait for our transfer. They were already waiting for us when we got there so it was bags on and off we go. We were the first on board so we got to cruise around Port Douglas again and check out all the places we could have stayed!

The Croc was out sunbaking again as we crossed over the bridge on the way to Cairns. We count that as seeing a croc in the wild even though it was the same one! :)

And that pretty much wraps up our holiday. We had an hour to kill at the airport which we managed with the help of Hungry Jacks and the bookstore. The flight home was uneventful and Mum and Dad were already at the airport when we arrived. They took us home and were the lucky first to be subjected to the 505 photos on the camera. :)

And so endeth the trip. We had a great time and I'm sure the bub enjoyed the week of warmth although it's a fair bet he/she is pretty warm anyway.
